The 2023 Jackson State University football schedule was unveiled on Wednesday. The two-time defending champions of the Southwestern Athletic Conference will embark on a new journey under the leadership of T.C. Taylor, the 22nd head coach in JSU football history. The goal for Coach Taylor, an alumnus of JSU, is to start and end the 2023 season in Atlanta.
The Taylor era begins on August 26th in Atlanta, where Jackson State will face South Carolina State in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Kickoff at Center Parc Stadium. This is a rematch of the 2021 Cricket Celebration Bowl.
Next, the Tigers will head to South Florida for the Denny's Orange Blossom Classic and open conference play against Florida A&M on September 3rd at Hard Rock Stadium. On September 9th, JSU will face Southern in a rematch of the 2022 Cricket SWAC Championship Game. The final non-conference game on September 16th will be against Texas State of the Sun Belt Conference, marking JSU's first game against an FBS team since facing Louisiana-Monroe in 2021.
Jackson State will host a four-game home schedule starting on September 23rd in the W.C. Gorden Classic, where they will face SWAC opponent Bethune-Cookman at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. After a bye week, JSU will open a four-game October slate against Alabama A&M on October 7th in the Gulf Coast Challenge in Mobile, Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Homecoming will be celebrated on October 14th against Alabama St. at The Vet. The final two road games of the regular season will be on October 21st against Mississippi Valley St. and on October 28th against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
JSU will finish the season at home, hosting Texas Southern on November 4th, and the regular season finale on November 18th against Alcorn. The Cricket SWAC Championship will take place on December 2nd and the Cricket Celebration Bowl on December 16th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Game times and themes will be announced later.
